CHALE DALE KUMRO

WE ENJOY BOILED RICE-LENTILS-VEGETABLES MEDLEY!

We want fish fries or cooked eggs on the side if having for lunch or dinner. Breakfasts at home are usually vegetarian, okay eggs are included for male members. It is wrong to mock those who doesn't want non-vegetarian food in the morning and vice-versa!  We mature with time, earlier I was against having meat for breakfasts. That isn't right, what is norm for the Hindus, not necessarily it would be same for the Muslims and Christians. My Hindu men eat meat for breakfasts while touring, I cannot ever. I always say food is a personal choice! What to eat need not be a national issue! It is wrong to decide for others what they would cook! I never thought one of the largest democracy in the world would want to decide what people would eat, what they should not! I don't take it seriously, I do not wish to believe a secular country be declared a vegetarian state!

WHY DID I COOK AN ONE POT MEAL ON A SATURDAY?

I cook good number of dishes on Saturday day time! Saturday nights we usually eat flat or puffed bread with the meat variety I cook; it can be chicken or mutton! Last Saturday, our stomach health wasn't well, we wanted our bowel system to get clear. We enjoyed it. Thereafter, the mango cubes felt great.

Since yesterday, I had been eating a lot of rice! Though scared, I cannot stop eating!

WHAT IS CHALE DALE KUMRO?

It is not pumpkin rice nor khichuri! You can say the inspiration is drawn from the Chale-Dale of T's home and the Southern Indian Pongal rice! Both varieties are similar, I am fond of both! The addition of dal to rice makes me happy! Baby's mumma needs dal every day, baby ate vegetables if mashed with dal until last year! The mother too needs dal everyday; her dal recipes are bland, good though! My brother preferred the dal varieties I cooked! The mother thinks only she and her mother know how to cook good Bengali Food, that they cannot go wrong! It is for the two of them mainly, I have taken to cooking! Although on  Saturdays I cook a lot, for our dinner I cooked this lentil-rice-vegetables medley! It is a vegan, gluten-free main meal I named CHALE DALE KUMRO! We enjoy frill-free meals with dollops of ghee or butter added to it!

Few other similar recipes from the blog are :

INGREDIENTS :

RICE : 1/2 COFFEE MUG [I USED BASMATI]
MUSHURIR DAL / RED LENTIL : 1/4 COFFEE MUG
PUMPKIN CUBE : 1 BOWLFUL
POTATO CUBE : 1 BOWLFUL
ANY VARIETY OF GREENS : A BUNCH
GREEN CHILLI : 3-4 [SLITTED]
SALT : AS REQUIRED
OIL : 2 TBSP

PROCEDURE :

On Saturday evening, I don't have the energy to take stepwise pictures of what I am cooking! Its an easy recipe!

I washed the dal and rice taken together in a bowl, soaked for sometime. Thereafter, I transferred them to a deep bottomed vessel with enough water; got to boil! I added some salt, the pumpkin and potato cubes.

I had put the gas stove on. After about 10 minutes, I added the washed greens discarding their roots, slitted green chillies, more of water and some salt!

I kept checking and stirring every few minutes; also kept adding water whenever it looked dry! It took another 5 minutes to be done! Do not ask me to use pressure cooker!

Enjoy the healthy, wholesome rice and vegetables with butter or ghee or mustard oil. Get fish fry, omelette or boiled eggs on the side.
